Treasurer EPBS (Belgium)

Chief Technologist • Expert in Onco-Hematological Diagnostics

Mickaël is, above all, a positive and enthusiastic spirit. To him, every challenge is an opportunity to innovate, learn, and grow. His natural curiosity drives him to meet new people, explore fresh ideas, and stay continuously informed of the latest scientific advances. Convinced that science is a powerful lever for improving our daily lives, he combines rigor and creativity to tackle tomorrow’s challenges.

A devoted computer enthusiast, Mickaël readily incorporates digital technologies into his work. Always on the lookout for innovation, he automates processes whenever possible to optimize the reliability and efficiency of diagnostics for the greatest benefit of patients.

With nearly twenty years of experience at the University Hospital Center of Liège, Mickaël is recognized as a hematology expert in flow cytometry. Alongside his multidisciplinary team, he performs highly specialized diagnostics of malignant hematological disorders and immunodeficiencies every day. His commitment to quality has helped his laboratory become one of the first fully automated clinical flow-cytometry centers in Europe, accredited ISO 15189/17025 for both fixed and flexible scopes.

Beyond his technical skills, Mickaël is a true bridge-builder. An active member of the Belgian Association of Laboratory Technologists (ABTL), he designs and leads continuing education courses and represents Belgium in international exchanges. Since 2014, he has served on both the European Association for Professions in Biomedical Science (EPBS) and the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS), where he helps define and harmonize European professional standards.

Co-author of several scientific publications, Mickaël is regularly called upon as a consulting expert by the Belgian Federal Public Service for Public Health and various regional health commissions, as well as the provincial medical commission. In parallel, he serves as an expert for the Agency for the Evaluation of the Quality of Higher Education (AEQES) in Wallonia-Brussels, helping to improve the training of future technologists.

Trained in analytical chemistry and holding a degree in biomedical sciences from Charlemagne High School, Mickaël marries scientific rigor with a human touch. In his spare time, he passionately invests in the community: he has co-founded several non-profits, most recently “J’ose Local” to promote social cohesion and local initiatives. Appointed by the diocese, he also serves as treasurer of his parish’s fabric committee, safeguarding local historic heritage.

Optimistic, curious, and driven by a love of sharing, Mickaël leverages his scientific expertise in the service of others. His motto? “Turning every challenge into a springboard for innovation, always keeping people at the heart of our ambitions.”
